An introduction
Experiment & Learn Rapidly is one of the four guiding principles of Modern Agile.
The other three are:
Make people awesome
Deliver value continuously
Make safety a prerequisite
Modern Agile says that you won’t achieve anything if you aren’t learning. Learning rapidly by experimenting frequently.
Make your experiments “safe to fail” so we are not afraid to conduct more experiments. When you are stuck or aren’t learning enough, take it as a sign that you need to learn more by running more experiments.
You can experiment in many ways. For example:
alternatives in ways of working together
implementation of an experimental user interface
changes in managing the coworkers
Part of a whole
‘Experiment & learn rapidly’ is an inseparable part of the Modern Agile wheel. The four guiding principles strengthen each other.
Here are some examples:
When people work in an unsafe environment, they will fear repercussions should they “fail”. As a result they will be reluctant to experiment and -as a result- learn.
With experimentation and fast learning you are chartering uncovered grounds fast. Fast feedback enables you to learn what a user really wants early, hence you will have more chances of delivering value.
Allowing people to experiment and learn, to work on new exciting things, can help to make you feel awesome.
