All coaches I know choose their roles because they wish to cause positive changes. They want to see people, teams and entire organizations become more effective. But I have seen coaches being so enthusiastic that they step into a major pitfall: they talk too much.
This has many negative consequences. The coach limits others from discussing their ideas. They will not be able to add their unique perspective. Consequently, this limits learning and people may feel they are not part of the journey. The risk of this all is that the coach is driving the change but it doesn’t meet the needs of the people involved.
Are you a coach and do you recognize yourself? I know I am sometimes guilty of this… Then take my advice: talk less, listen more!
You have two ears and one mouth; use them proportionally… 😉
